Generation's Cup

Gentlemen:

The Generation's Cup is approaching. The Generations Cup will be September 10th and 11th. We will have a party to kickoff the event on Friday evening September 9th to unveil the teams and pairings for Saturday's play.

Entry Fee is Estimated at $100 and includes two Nike Dri-Fit Shirts, Pairings dinner party, and lunch both days. $1 beer will be available throughout the weekend during play. Saturday will be 27 holes consisting of 9 Holes Best Ball, 9 Holes Scramble, and 9 Holes Alternate Shot.

Sunday will be Tavistock Format where each group will have team matches and individual matches being contested. Deadline to enter in Wednesday September 7th at 5:00 p.m.  Please call or drop by the golf shop to signup.

Upcoming Events

Our next Riverlands Men's Golf Association event in August is set, Individual Match Play. This event returns after a long hiatus. Please see the details below. We will use a tee time start on Saturday. There will be a shotgun start on Saturday at 7:30 for those who do not wish to play in the Tournament. Match Play Tee Times will begin at 11:30 am. on Saturday.  We are using a tee time start due to the Saints Party listed below. 

August 20-21

Entry Fee - $30 includes party, prizes, and Sunday lunch.

Format - Individual Match Play.  The Championship Flight will play Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Championship Flight Friday Losers will split into the President's Flight.  Flights will be determined after signup. Sunday's play will be 36 holes.

Saints Party - After play on Saturday afternoon, the M.G.A. is sponsoring a party to watch the Saints play the Texans in Houston. Dinner for players and spouses is included in your entry fee. We will also have $1 beer during the game.  We will also be sponsoring a Pool for the game with the proceeds going towards our Men's Locker Room Restoration Project.

After play on Sunday we will have lunch and crown the match play club champions!!

Signup Sheets will be posted in the Golf Shop. 

Generations Cup - Ok, I know a lot of you are excited about this event. So, mark your calendars for September 10th and 11th. We will have a players only party on Friday night before play to unveil the teams. Entry Fee will be $100 and will include 2 team shirts, Friday night dinner, and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. 

There will be no prizes as this event is all about pride, Juniors vs Seniors!!! 

Signup Sheet for this event will be posted in the next week so that we can get shirt sizes in time to get the shirts in.

Night Golf Event June 17th

Our next M.G.A. event will be Night Golf on Friday June 17th.  This event is sponsored by the M.G.A. and is open to ALL members at Riverlands (yes, this includes ladies) please see below for the details.

When - Friday June 17th

Entry Fee - $35  your entry fee includes prizes, night golf supplies,  pasta-laya dinner before play, official night golf "mai tai" drink on course, and chicken wing station on the course.

Time - Festivities kick off at 6:00 p.m. with an extreme putting challenge course and dinner, then play will start at dark on the 5 hole night golf course.

Format - A-B-C-D scramble. Teams will be randomly selected. We received a lot of positive feedback after randomly drawing the teams for the crawfish and decided that this would be a great event to again randomly draw teams.  Please sign up Individually in the golf shop.

We think this will be an exciting and fun event. Please come out and have a great time.

Member Guest Week

1. Friday May 20th - Practice Rounds and Shoot-out. Please arrange a practice round time for you and your guest by getting in touch with the golf shop. The course is only open to those who are playing in the member guest. The shootout will begin at 3:00 p.m. with para-mutual betting before play. Please sign up for the shootout in the golf shop.

A jambalaya lunch will be served from 11:00 - 2:30. A special thank you to Sheriff Wayne L. Jones for donating the jambalaya lunch. We are very appreciative of his support and also for letting us borrow his tents for this weekend. 

The silent auction will be going on all day in the clubhouse and we will pickup the Calcutta in the evening with the Mexican Buffet beforehand and open bar. Para-mutual betting will also be taking place on Friday evening.

2. Saturday May 21st - Play starts promptly at 9 a.m.There will be two 50/50 raffles, one for Saturday and one for Sunday. These may be purchased on the drink cart 1 for $10 or 3 for $20. You may also purchase additional chances for the PING irons at the hit the green contest on hole #2. Proceeds from this raffle will be used to buy additional chemicals for our course. $1 drinks during play.

   There will also be a players pool conducted by Mr. Ellis Sampson II, please find him prior to play on Saturday Morning to enter.

Seafood Extravaganza -  After Play on Saturday evening. Live music, seafood, and open bar.  We will also have an extreme putting challenge. $5 per round. Low score wins a new PING putter. Proceeds will be donated to buy primo for our fairways.  

3. Sunday May 22nd - Second Round starts promptly at 10 a.m. followed by a Fried Chicken lunch.

We are very excited for this year's event. We have seen an increase in participation in this event over previous years. We hope that everyone is enjoying the new direction of the M.G.A. to provide you with a fun,exciting, and challenging tournament series.

Member - Guest information

Our flagship event is now on the horizon, the Member/Guest!  This is a very special year as this event celebrates Riverlands 50th Anniversary. We have an outstanding schedule of events that you can see below.

We hope that everyone will consider playing if their schedule allows. There are some people who choose not to play for reasons like : "I don't have a chance to win" or "I'm not paying $175 to play my own course when I pay to belong"

We hope that people take the stance to play for the following reasons:

1. I am proud to be a member of Riverlands and to "show off" MY CLUB and COURSE to others. Be an ambassador for Riverlands!

2.  Our club needs tournaments like this in order to succeed.  I think all of us who know where Riverlands is at financially can appreciate the boost an event like this brings to the club.

3. Spend quality time with a friend that you don't normally get to play with.  There are many people we do not normally get to play with for 3 straight days.

4. A great value for $350 per team. I could write a novel here, however look at the list below and you will see what we mean.

Practice Round for COMPETITORS ONLY on May 20th, all day.  Lagniappe Lunch included in entry fee on Friday. The alternate shot "Horse Race" will be going off at 3 p.m. Please sign up separately in  the golf shop by Thursday evening. Members and Guests are invited to play. $10 entry fee.

Friday 7 - 10 p.m. - Dynamic Calcutta with live bidding starting at 8 p.m.  We will also have dinner, open bar, and  para mutual betting.  Players and Spouses only

Saturday - 9:00 a.m.  shotgun  start. Lunch on Course.  4:00 p.m. - Seafood Extravaganza. Featuring crawfish, shrimp, oysters, fried fish, etc....   open bar and lots of fun!!   There will also be a extreme putting contest for a PING Putter.

Sunday - 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch after play. 

Winning team will receive a PING Hoofer Golf Bag signifying them as "Member/Guest Champs"

Entry fee also includes a chance to win a set of PING irons! Additional chances may be purchased throughout the tournament for $10 or 3 for $20

We will have a 50/50 Raffle and individual mulligans available for purchase on Sunday at the Crawfish Tournament. Mulligans will be available at the M.G.A. table in the pro shop and the 50/50 will be available to purchase on the drink cart.

Proceeds from both the 50/50 and mulligans will be donated to Randy for chemicals and upkeep of the course

Crawfish Tournament

The time is here, the annual crawfish tournament will be Sunday April 17th 9:00 a.m. Shotgun start. We will be playing a new format for this year's event. We will play an A-B-C scramble. We will be playing six people per group, so two teams will play together. Will will flight the field based upon the number of teams.

Please sign up individually in the pro shop. Entry fee is $40 and includes crawfish with corn and potatoes after play.

Member - Guest

An early reminder to mark your calendar for the member-guest on Saturday May 21st and  Sunday 22nd.  Practice Round will be on Friday May 20th with the famous "Horse Race" in the early afternoon on Friday.  We are also planning on having the great "Seafood Extravaganza on Saturday evening after play.

We will also have the Calcutta and Para-Mutual betting party on Friday evening.  We also have a great gift for this year's tournament, a PING Duffel bag with the Riverlands 50th Anniversary logo! 

Spring Fling Details

We hope that all of you will join us for the next event on the M.G.A. schedule, the Spring Fling.

The Spring Fling will be next Sunday, March 27th with a 9 a.m. shotgun start
Please make your own 4 man team. As usual, the sign up sheet is in the golf shop
The entry fee is $35 per player and includes golf, lunch, and prizes.

We will be paying the top 2 net balls and the top 2 gross balls.
The $5 mulligans will also be available with a limit of 2 per team. Proceeds donated to chemicals.
We will also have a 50/50 raffle with the proceeds going to chemicals for the golf course. 

SO, come out and join us for a great day of golf!

A Great Day!

I am happy to report that the M.G.A. Opening Day Invitational Tournament was a success! We had over 100 players participate in the first event of the 2011 season.  Special thanks go out to the ladies who assisted us with running the drink cart and raffle on hole #2. We managed to raise a little over $1,500 from the raffle. We are donating ALL of this money to Randy so that he can purchase the chemicals and fertilizers that he needs for the course.

Thank you to everyone who came out and played, without your support the results we had would not have been attainable. Hopefully those who were debating on joining the M.G.A. will do so after playing in the opening invitational. All M.G.A. members also received a Riverlands 50th Anniversary hat.

Results will be posted later this week. Also, please plan on joining us for our next event the Spring Fling in March. More information on this event will be posted soon.

What is the Men's Golf Association

I'm sure this a pretty popular question that most are shy to ask but, What is the M.G.A., what do we do, and why should I be a member?

The M.G.A. is a club within the club. The M.G.A. is a self sustaining organization that has a separate budget and board of officers from Riverlands C.C. We pay tournament entry fees to the club and are a not for profit organization.  The M.G.A. strives to provide our members with a fun, competitive environment. 

Your next question probably is "Well, where does the remainder of the funds go after entry fees have been paid and prize money distributed?"  The M.G.A.  takes this surplus and we fund projects around the club. For example, the proceeds from our raffle this Sunday are being donated to Randy to buy chemicals for the course, and we are looking at funding a project to build a scoreboard by the back patio this year.

So, as you can see the answer to the last question should be "I want to be a member of the M.G.A. to participate and have have fun playing golf while knowing that I am helping to give back and improve my club, Riverlands C.C."  

We have a great tournament schedule this season, so please join us this season!

M.G.A. Invitational

A friendly reminder to please plan on joining us for the Opening Invitational Tournament this Sunday Feb 27th. This will be a great event to enjoy golf, friends, and great weather as it's looking like a beautiful day with high of 75 degrees for the 27th.

We will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m. PING Golf has donated a G15 Driver or $300 in PING Equipment which will be raffled off after lunch (winner must be present). We will have a "hit the green" contest on hole #2 where you can double your raffle entries for a wager.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS RAFFLE WILL BE DONATED TO RANDY TO BUY CHEMICALS TO MAINTAIN OUR COURSE!!

MGA Dues

 For 2011 our MGA dues will increase to $20.00 from $15.00 in 2010. Every member who joins the MGA this year will receive a special 50th Anniversary Riverlands hat. We hope that all members wear the hat with pride for our 50th Anniversary. We are in the process of finalizing the design of that hat and we will post pictures here on the blog when it is completed.

Welcome to our new Riverlands MGA Blog site! Riverlands C.C. has a lot of things to be thankful for. We hope to provide all members with a fun tournament schedule that also will allow you to meet new people and take pride in Riverlands. With this being the 50th Anniversary of OUR club, please plan on joining us for the 2011 season as this will be a year you won't want to miss.
